Wordpress.org Pros easy blog set up, Can set up a self hosted Blog (Get to that in a minute). Con limited features.
Tumblr Pro easiest of all to use. Cons difficult to make money, can't customize it much.
Blogger Pros easy to set up and customize. Con the domain name contains ".blogspot.com"
Wordpress Pros easy to sert up and can customize. Con the domain contains ".wordpress.com". That is what you get for Free what do you expect.
If want complete control your going to have to self host.( Basically Pay for it )
Self hosting involves
1. Buying a Domain Name for ex: http://www./####.com
2. Getting your blog domain name hosted. For example Quick Blog from GoDaddy.com
3. Using ad networks such as www.google.com/adsense, or
These ad networks allows for ads to be geared by relevent content. Most sites use google adsense, chitika is another good one.
To give you an example, if your blog is about cars your vistor will get Ads relevant to cars.
4. Then comes the world of Affiliates. Adding affiliates to your site enables you to get commission for any sales generated through the ads posted on your site.In your browser you can search for Affiliate programs and it will provide you with tons of affiliates. 5. Promote your blog by getting involved blog communities I use http://www.mybloglog.com/ . There is also http://www.blogcatalog.com/, http://technorati.com/. The objective is to network with other bloggers. make sure you comment on other blogs it's a sure fire way of directing traffic your way. Make sure what you say is thoughtful and provocative, hit the forums on your topic and leave a link to your site.
Guest post on other blogs with similar interest. This allows you be seen toot your own horn and slowly you will create a following of readers.

So You've posted a bunch of stuff and noticed that no ones following. That is the importance of getting involved with blog communities. It allows you to network with other bloggers as well as expose you to their readers. This site allows bloggers to be recognized by other bloggers and povides a better overall atmosphere disscussing important subjects. You can read and contribute or you can organize and publish. It's your decision.
After you've gotten this far you now have to hit the directories but before that do asearch on the topic you want to cover so you can see whats out there.
